Due to the ongoing need to remain safe during the covid-19 pandemic, we are still unable to meet in person. Social distancing that prevents the spread of the virus leads to loneliness, also a health risk. Student volunteers will meet via Zoom to learn basic principles of aging and best practices for connecting with older adults. This 90-minute session will prepare student volunteers to participate in Link Generations programs with older adults during the school year, including starting and/or joining Link Generations Clubs. Students will learn best practices for engaging in interactive conversations with older adults about common interests, each other’s experiences, and helping each other feel a sense of social connections. Examples of discussion themes include music through the ages, teaching technology skills (show off your Smartphone and App skills), and favorite hobbies.
